Cephalanthus occidentalis (Buttonbush)

Buttonbush is a semi-aquatic woody shrub that grows in wetland areas. Each branch bears dark glossy green foliage and white globe-like infloresences. The flowers are pollinated by moths, bees and various butterflies.

A distinctive plant whether flowering or fruiting, buttonbush is always easy to identify by its pincushion spherical flowers or nutlet fruits.
