Eelgrass is a rooted submergent perennial growing in colonies.  Leaves are yellow-green or reddish in color and arise in upright clusters from the base.  Leaf length is controlled by waterdepth and varies from a few cm to 1.5 m.  The tips of the leaves are usually below the surface or may occasionally float on top.

Frequent in lakes & streams.

Present throughout the state.
