Plant grows in the wild/spontaneously

Chicory flowers are brightest in the early morning and begin to fade and droop around noon to fall off by the next day.  The large tuberous root runs deep underground, it can be ground and used as a tasty coffee substitute.  At the base of wiry stems, there are dandelion-like leaves.

Common in fields, along roadsides, and wastegrounds.

Present throughout the state.
