An fast-spreading weed from Europe that is prevalent on fields and along roadsides.  This plant is quite hairy, its stems and bracts are covered with bristly blacking hairs. Another hawkweed, called the Devil's paint-brush (Pilosella aurantiaca) is very similar looking but of deep orange color.

Grows in meadows, fields, man-disturbed habitats.

Present throughout the state.

Range: From Eastern Canada throughout north-eastern US.
