Monotropa uniflora
Strange-looking plant sometimes confused with a mushroom
Monotropa uniflora Indian pipe
This eerie-looking plant lacks chlorophyll and gets its nutrients through nearby fungi that are attached to host trees. The flowers droop on long slender stems resembling the Indian folklore peace pipe. Once the seeds start forming the plant raises its head. The plant turns black as the fruit ripens, grows up to 10 in tall.
