This stunning wild-flower arrives in mid-spring and makes the forest floor come alive with the mixture of white and magenta. Like in other trilliums, leaf-like bracts are arranged in whorls of three at the top of stem (scape). Each bract has a short petiole. The solitary flower rises above the leaf-like bracts on a one-inch stalk.
Habitat & Range
Grows in cool, shady forests in acidic soil.
Found in counties other than south-east, south-central and a few south-western counties.

Flowers single, 3 green sepals, 3 white petals with reddish or purple triangle at the base;
peduncle erect to ascending; 0.4 to 1″ long
Leaves(bracts) simple, entire or wavy margin; dark green, in a whorl of 3; ovate, on a short petiole, acuminate tip; 3-6″ long
Stem(scape) erect, smooth, green
Fruit oval, red, 6-parted berry; darkens with age; < 1″ long;
Height up to 16″
