Woodwardia areolata netted chain fern


This fern appears in late spring with shiny new growth and a velvety-like texture. The elongated sori appear in broken lines, looking like a chain. Blades are deeply lobed and the pinnae have pronounced netted venation. It likes to grow in shaded swamps and wet woods.

Shaded areas of swamps, acidic bogs, wet woods, and moist sandstone cliffs
