Spiraea tomentosa steeplebush
The steeple shape of the flowerhead gives this woody shrub its name. Little five-petaled flowers start blooming in July starting from the top downward. The leaves are distinctively wooly-brown on the underside. Steeplebush prefers to grow in wetlands or sometimes in the shallow water of lakes.
Habitat & Range
Frequent in wet meadows, moist old fields, bogs and swamps.
Present throughout the state.
