Occasional in open woods, stream banks and fields. Often cultivated. Prefers full sun, but can tolerate part shade.
Found in the west of the state.

Phenology
Flowers from mid May to June.
Characteristics
Flowers blue-violet, 1 inch long; borne on top of tallest branches in terminal racemes; racemes up to 15 inches long
Leaves compund with 3 clover-like leaflets; dark blue-green; turn blue-black when dried
Stem smooth, round, branching
Fruit oblong seed pod on a stipe slightly longer than calyx; up to 2 inches long
Height up to 5 feet
