This plant of lakes and ponds is so abundant at flowering time that a haze of purple can be seen on the water surface from a distance.  The flowers are purplish with a yellow blotch on the palate, each peduncle holds 3-5 blooms.  The leaves are whorled with traps at the tips of leaf segements, a unique characteristic of this bladderwort.

Grows in lakes & ponds, and can be locally abundant.

Found in the glaciated north-east of the state.
