Enchanter’s-nightshades are rhizomatous perennial herbs with opposite, petioled leaves. Their inflorescences are terminal racemes, occasionally accompanied by secondary lateral branches. Flowers are tiny, each with 2 petals, 2 sepals, and 2 stamens. The fruit is indehiscent, bur-like, and covered with hooked bristles.
