Marsilea quadrifolia
Marsilea quadrifolia European water clover

Water clover is an aquatic fern with four-lobed fronds that resemble clover leaves. It is usually found in relatively shallow waters, with rhizomes anchored in the mud, from which the fronds and sporocarps emerge. The frond stalks range from 2 to 6 inches and often extend beyond the water's surface, while the sporocarps are on shorter stalks and usually remain below the water level. This species has naturalized in our state and has become invasive in some areas.
