Hypoxis stargrass
Stargrasses are small, grass‑like perennials that grow from a corm or short rhizome, forming a tight tuft of linear leaves.
Genus Hypoxis is globally centered in southern Africa, with H. hirsuta being the only species occurring in Pennsylvania. Several other species occur in the south.

This genus was formerly placed into Amaryllidaceae family, and prior to that into Liliaceae. Moved into its own family Hypoxidaceae in late 20th century.
