A very large, long-lived tree of wet places growing up to 150 feet and living up to 200 years. The seeds are released in large quantities with the cottony materil attached, giving this tree its common name.
Habitat & Range
Grows along streams and lakes in wet soils.
Mostly present in western part of the state.

Tree large tree with single or multiple trunks, few lower branches; large, broad iregullar crown
Leaves simple, alternate, tirangular with margins with coarse teeth; upper and lower surfaces shiny green
Bark gray with deep flat furrows

Fruit composed of many tiny capsules; capsules split open into 4 parts that release seeds; seeds float in the wind and attachin to cottony material
