Quite similar to V. dentatum, differing in glabrous petioles and mostly glabrous lower leaf surfaces.  V. recognitum which has distribution all over the state is a former variety of V. dentatum (V. dentatum var. lucidum), and has been elevated to its own species.

Common in swamps, boggy woods,  wet pastures and stream banks.

Present throughout the state.
